Sir Hamza Šarić, a respectable name in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s business, is a Managing Director of the Tehnograd Company which is one of the leading companies on the region in its branch. This company from Tuzla (makes profit around 25. million of Convertible Mark, and employs about 400
people), is steadily economizing and is confirming its overall value on the market. Remarkable manager and great man, who is always looking ahead, sir Hamza Šarić, is one of the laureate of the best manager and his company Tehnograd is the best company for the 2015. in the project of the best company and best manager election.
How did the Tehnograd Company started?
D.D. (holding company) “Tehnograd-building constructions” Tuzla dates 68. Years (1947.), where it
operated within former company “Tehnika”, whereas in 1973., by forming SOUR-a GIK (Complex
Organization of Associated Labor, Municipal Election Commission) “Tehnograd” Tuzla, the company
starts working as OOUR (Basic Organization of Associated Labor) for construction “Tuzla”.
By the end of 1989, the company was formed as independent enterprise the name DGP “Tehnograd
Building Constructions”. The company operates as privatizes ownership Ltd “Tehnograd-company”
since the year of 2000.
What is the company’s main activity?
We are construction company, specialized for constructing various types of residential buildings,
office buildings, and facilities for other purposes, and specialized constructions such as dams,
bridges, silos and other similar facilities. We have adequate equipment and executive organs and as
such we are highly qualified and capable of implementing the most complex projects any time, any
where, including the building system “the key into your hands”.
With the equipment that we own, and internal organization, we are focused on bigger constructional
projects. Lately we are enforcing experience through investment construction of residential and
office buildings on home market, and with that, among other things, we wish to contribute the
growth of the market by initiating higher standards. For example, we have built thermal power plants
in Tuzla and Ugljevik.
Besides home market, you are also represented abroad as well? Where do you build?
During its work, the company was quite active abroad, it has operated in Russia, Italy, Germany,
Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Iraq, Zambia, Algeria, Libya, which has resulted in earning great experience
and significant reputation. The number of facilities that we have constructed is imposing.
Residential buildings were built, public facilities, industrial, hydro-technical and energy facilities,
facilities related to agricultural and food industry, and bridges as well as supporting walls, landslides
were restored, and renovation of buildings that were damaged by land subsidence that was caused
by many years of salt exploitations from salt deposit in the city of Tuzla.
We also have a firm in Ljubljana (Tehnoengineering ), which is currently working on water purifier
facility. We began that project in fall last year and it should be finished by may of 2016. In Ljubljana’s
“department” we have around 30 people working.
We are at the end of the year 2015. Tell us something more specific about the company’s trade, from
the beginning, till the end of the year.
In this year we have finished one residential-office building, with over 160 residential units and with
around 2000 square meters(m 2 ) of office space. At the moment we’re in pace of constructing a
beautiful residential building in Slavinovići Tuzla locality, with 222 residential units, four laminas and
16,5 thousand of square meters. We expect to finish this project as well by the end of the year.
Recently we have finished a project of building hostels for one Kuwait’s organization. That
investment, in some way I have suggested. The lot was also bought from us, and in total it has been
invested around 6,5 millions of BAM (convertible Bosnian mark).
Mr. Šarić, what do you consider the company’s biggest achievement?
Here I would singled out as the biggest achievement the situation in 2011., due to global economy crisis, and the fear of its consequences, where the banking sector has raised its interest rate to
enormous figures, and with that created impossible condition for population to raise a loan. We have created a program which we have also successfully implemented, where we credited 200 of our costumers, our co-investors in constructing building “Tuzlanka” for a period of 24 to 72 months, without interest. With such proceeding I believe that we have done enormously helpful thing for our community.
With which construction building are you mostly proud of?
The most representative facility in our reference gallery is a building “Barok”. It was declared as the
best building among the buildings three years ago. The old Barok Building was built just before the
WWI, and it was a precursor to the modern shopping malls. It was build quickly in accordance to the
Austria’s plan project by former government of Tuzla and merchants, after the announced visit of
Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand to Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the fire in 1893., there began a new
constructions of the building (around 1900.), which immediately got the name “Barok”, not because
of its purpose, but because of its style. The Barok Building was considered to be the most beautiful
building in north-eastern Bosnia. In its intended function, Barok existed for almost 80 years, after it
was totally destroyed by the inadequate construction maintenance and gradual neglection.
After a long time of municipality’s dilemma, a decision was made in a favor of Barok’s demolition.
After 25 years, to the joy of many, especially elder citizens of Tuzla, municipal administration has
decided to rebuild the replica of the building that should be a true copy of the old beauty.
Today, Barok Building proudly stands on its old place, and I’m especially proud of this construction.
In our construction we have used construction materials from Wien. Square of the façade that we
have constructed is priced 2500 BAM, and we have a 200 years of guarantee on that. We have
donated that project to the city of Tuzla. The thing that has brought me joy was building of Bayern-
Munich’s stadium, where we have constructed all the installation, central heating, ventilation, and
many other required things, as the manufacturer of “Alpina” Austria, one of the largest companies in
Europe. Constructing silos in Serbia, Kostolac, as well as constructing silos for thermal power plant in
Tuzla, is also a remarkable reference, specially because it considers a specific method of constructing,
so called sliding formwork. That method of constructing requires a specialized personnel, special
gear, which a very small number of firms possesses. When it comes to the whole former Yugoslavia
state market, we only have one or two competing companies. We are also proud of building the
residential and commercial building in Srebrenik, with its capacity of around 260 apartments, Then in
Tuzla with capacity of around 1000 apartments, and Živinice with 297 apartments.
Tell us something more about your vision and expansion of the company? What are your plans with the company in the next 10 years? What would Tehnograd Company be like in 2025?
Our vision is to be a synonym for the company that pushes the boundaries and puts higher standards
in business area, investments, as well as in sector of living, which not only it brings new habits and
trends, but it also predicts them and creates them. To be a synonym for the company that operates
in collaboration with time to come. That is why we have defined and established insurance of the
product compatibility, and services fitting the costumer’s requests, that is the consumers of our
services. In that purpose the system of managing quality that meets the standards of ISO 9001:2008
has been established and documented, and it’s constantly being updated in accordance with the
requests of standardization. When it comes to technicalities and financial requirements, our
company is completely qualified and capable of performing the most sophisticated constructions any
time, any where. I would specially emphasize the importance of the people as the most valuable
recourse of this company, because there is no success without quality experts, engineers and
manpower. Because of that we give our full our full attention in vocational training of the employees
through diverse educations and seminars.
Well, that was exactly our next question. You have developed Tehnograd Company with team work.
Tell us something more about your personnel?
As I have already mentioned, we give our full attention to human recourses. Today’s Thenograd
Company has 397 permanent employees, and we have a number of seasonal workers depending on
workload. When it comes to our project there are over 1000 workers engaged, including 30 to 50 of
In last 15 years we have retired 920 workers with all the legally associated benefits. One thing that I
would like to point out and which is of great importance to us is our exceptional cooperation with the
Union. We have built a great interpersonal relationships and enormous trust, which is in my opinion
the key to success. We are surrounded by highly qualified and experienced experts, my associates,
and with their work, the company brings about an important comparative advantages in regard to
the rival companies. We’re taking care of new personnel, through constant hiring probationers.
Around 30 young graduates are acquiring their first work experience in Tehnograd Company at the
I must also point out that I’ve been lucky, if I may say it like that, that I’ve had dispositional personnel
here when I arrived to this company, and a few associates, essential people, with whom I formed
management team. My closest associates are Ekrem Lukić, Technical Manager, an excellent
construction engineer, then Slobodan Stojanović, Financial Manager, and Melisa Šarić, lawyer.
Mr Šarić, beside the engagement to Tehnograd Company, as your “main occupation”, you are also
active in many other fields, if I may say it like that, first of all in the field of education. What’s that all
Education doesn’t just consists of the things you remember or know. It consists of your
understanding the difference between of how much you know and how much you don’t. All my life I
have been learning, and still am. In march of 2013. I have successfully defended master work on the
topic “ Marketing Strategy research of constructing companies in B&H”. Since the term of 2014. I
have been a lecturer in “International Business Academy” in Tuzla in the department of Marketing
Euro Manager: Tell us something more about the academy, since a very few number of people know
that Tehnograd Company is one of the co-founders of “International Business Intel Academy”.
International Business Intel Academy is the first private college in Tuzla canton.
The college performs teaching in study programs such as: “IT” (informational technologies),
“Marketing Communications”, “Contemporary Business”, and “IT Management”.
The motto of our college is “Study the college tailored by employers”, which means that personnel attending
our academy are immediately capable to respond all existing challenges in any firm which hires
This is the second academic year and we already have 350 students, and that makes me very happy.
The majority owner of the Academy is Tehnograd Company, and we have a lot of experience in the
field of education, since this firm was also a co-founder of the construction high school in Tuzla back
in the sixties of the last century. The headquarters of IBI academy is near Square (known location in
Tuzla). We are talking about 600 000 BAM worth of investment. Teaching personnel consists of 50
Ph.D.s and Master of Science, all from Tuzla canton. Evaluation shows that around 6000 citizens of
Tuzla canton are studying in other cities and our goal is to courage our young people with our study
quality, teaching personnel, and other recourses, to sign in our faculty program. We are aware that in
the beginning there will be skepticism , but we have set high standards and we want to create
respectable Academy. Every knowledge is expensive, but ignorance is the most expensive, as always.
The public knows little about your private life. What does your family mean to you? How many
members are there? What are their occupations?
I’m a family man and I have remarkable and successful family. Luckily a healthy family, which is the
most important thing. None of this would have probably existed on business level, if I hadn’t have
full support of my family. My wife, Amela is a professor at school, my daughter, Melisa is a law
graduate and she works here as a manager of legal consultations, and her husband is one of the
youngest eminent lawyers. My son, Melis has graduated at American University, section for the
economy and keeps finances of Tehnograd Company, and his wife, Emina is a graduate of economy
and works at the student’s service of IBI academy in Tuzla. What brings me the great joy are my three
little grandchildren. By the end of the day I get the chance to feel happy just by seeing their smiles.
To be successful in a business there must have been a lot of renunciation. Do you have time to relax,
time for socializing, some hobby maybe?
I have well staggered my time. We have two times per week obligated family gathering. By the rule,
we have lunch once a week so we have excellent communication and respect for each other, and
even though in some way we are also co-workers and friends, we try not to talk about work during
those family gatherings. I have a great number of friends, acquaintances and I must commend that I
get to do and meet everything and everyone. When it comes to resting and recreation, I relax myself
by working in orchard which I have built in my hometown Tuholj on the mountain Konjuh, next to
Kladanj. I like hiking, strolling, chess and every week I play recreational football (soccer).
Every night, of course I go out for a two hour stroll with my wife, that’s around 4, 5, 6, kilometers,
even though it is not recommendable because of the air pollution.
May we say that Hamza Šarić is a happy and contented man?
Yes you may, really, when I turn around and look back from this point of view, I may firmly say that
I’m truly a happy man, and if life gave me a chance to go back, I would have done it all the same.
You Mr. Šarić have been nominated for the best manager of the year 2015., and Tehnograd
Company, which you are successfully managing, for the best company of the year. What does this
acknowledgement means to you, do you ever consider about the rewards and remuneration?
First and foremost I would like to thank the proposers for the award, as well as your agency which
has recognized and appointed our company for the prestige acknowledgement. Award for the best
manager, and the best company I see as the award of the all company’s employees. Every award and
every acknowledgement makes you contend and it’s in a way a motivation and stimulant for future
work. I would like to thank the agency for the election and promotion of the managers in B&H in the
name of all of Tehnograd Company’s staff, and I consider the nomination for the award justified.
And last, for the end, respectable Mr. Šarić, tell us, is there a chance for the people to have a better
life on these regions?
Political stabilization is of great importance in B&H, where we have to build market for our economy.
We also have to fight each for ourselves separately for better position, and better life, and stop
thinking that the country can provide us everything. Economy does not have a name nor a surname,
neither does the politics have a pure mathematics. It is very important to attract and bring new
investors to Bosnia and Herzegovina, who will, besides the finances, bring new working system and
new technologies. We have to make our country to exploit more of our natural recourses, to
strengthen our wood and metal industry, where we have decades of experience. We can, and we
must make the most of our clean air, waters and mountains for strengthening tourism interests.
Still, I hold the most important thing, and a prior one is to establish system of ruling rights and return
the citizen’s trust into the rule of law.
